Have you ever thought about those random pieces of writing, drawings, children’s art, school reports, anything on paper that has a personal value, but nowhere to keep it that expresses its true worth?
How about binding that memorabilia into books?
Using three simple binds - the three whole bind, the Japanese stab bind, and a variety of single page folded books - book artist Caroline Byrne will direct you in gathering your loose material into a finished piece of art that will proudly sit on your book shelf.
So bring your work. Be prepared to cut, fold, stitch, recreate and share your developing art with others. What you bring to the class will be the starting point and inspiration for a journey into your own ‘Imperfect Diaries’.
Please note that depending on the volume of work bought to the class, not every piece of memorabilia may be bound, but a multitude of possibilities will be covered by looking at each others work, and individuals will receive artistic direction to continue in their own time.
The workshop takes place in the studio over our shop in Terenure in Dublin D6WXN23
Caroline Byrne is a Fine Artist specialising in book art and original print. She has been teaching bookbinding for many years in Museums, artists studios and schools.
