Chiyogami papers are silk screen printed by hand in Japan. This silk screen process is borrowed from the centuries old tradition of printing Kimonos. There can be as many as 20 colours on each design, each one printed separately and allowed to dry. It is an intricate skilful process that gives rise to this beautifully rich and vibrant paper.

I spent an afternoon last week choosing from the most gorgeous Nepalese papers for my Liberty Papers’ lampshade workshop.
Sheila was wonderful throughout, guiding us with such patience and expertise that even complete beginners (like me!) felt like experts!
There’s something really satisfying about creating something with your hands, and this workshop delivered that in spades.
It was such a relaxing afternoon and before I knew it, I was admiring my very own handmade lampshade—something I actually made myself!
The lamp has pride of place in my home, and every time I switch it on, I remember what a lovely few hours I spent there. If you’re looking for a creative escape that leaves you with something beautiful to show for it, I can’t recommend this enough!
