This sheet is handmade in Nepal using locally grown mitsumata. Mitsumata has a characteristic crispness and this sheet has a smooth surface. It can be used for many art forms as well as lining and restoration.
Like other Nepalese papers, this is a wonderful ecological paper. Made by hand in the foothills of the Himalayas, it gives local rural skilled employment especially for women. The crop of mitsumata is harvested from the bark of the mitsumata bush every 3-5 years. Its growth prevents soil erosion and is an important biological reservoir.
