Nepalese "Japan Style" Paper

This sheet is handmade in Nepal in what they call a Japan style where the sheet is formed in a different way. Sometimes called Japanese Argeli. This style of paper making leaves one of the long sides with a beautiful doubled over effect. See image.

Like the other Lokta papers, this is a wonderful ecological paper. Made by hand in the foothills of the Himalayas, it gives local rural skilled employment especially for women. The crop of lokta is harvested from the bark of the lokta bush each year, and its growth prevents soil erosion and is an important biological reservoir.
